Sean Micka was a fellow in the Whitney Musuem of American Art, Independent Study Program, Studio Program participating in 2012-2013, and 2013-2014. Micka’s practice is project based and involves research, painting, drawing, design and bookmaking. Recent paintings, drawings and editions/books have focused on antiquarian auction catalogs, and the personal items of patrons who’s private collections have gone to auction. Most recent are a series of oil paintings on partially raw canvas of Dutch Tulips, inspired by the historical event known as Tulip Mania (1637) the first recorded economic bubble which collapsed under the duress of the bubonic plague, during the Dutch Golden Age.
