When asked to experiment with letterpress, Lawrence Weiner saw it as an opportunity to play with text, aligning form and meaning in his signature style. This led to “TIT AS TAT”—not to be confused with “tit as tat.” Weiner explained that when printing multiple colors in letterpress, perfect alignment is rarely achieved. The book unfolds as a playful interaction between letters and colors that intentionally don’t align perfectly, creating a dynamic visual experience.
This is the only letterpress book ever created by the artist, and Three Star Books is incredibly proud to have published it. We provided the artist with the technique, and as always when collaborating with remarkable artists, the result exceeded our expectations.
